Dudes and Dudettes

I've always believed that the Singaporean Cab uncle is like the unspoken heroes of our country. They provide for us indispensable service in the forms of their metal machines that take us from point A to B in a short time. They're mostly English educated, sometimes chatty, and are probably as old as your parents.

But, like the occasional bruised apple in the isle we call life, there's usually the bad one that ruins the image of the Cab Driver.

It started out late in the afternoon. Around 1715 hours today. I was out with my mom, sis and bro. We took a cab from Vivo City to our house at Toa Payoh.

Now, the usual instructions that I tell the cab uncle/auntie would be to go by the highway and exit by Molmien(is that how it's spelt?) at the CDC. Most of them would know how to go so I assumed they know the best. What followed next was like a blatant slap to my face.

I informed the uncle, well before the turning point 2 times to exit by Molmien. I thought he heard me because he signalled to go left on the highway.

Instead, he just drove onwards towards Braddel.

What. The. Hell??????

Knowing the outspoken brother I had, he told me he'll do something to the cab driver.

Well........as long as it doesn't involve him stabbing the guy I'm fine!

Anyway, after the guy drove to my house, my brother told my mom straight to her face; Don't pay him. He then turned to the cab driver and said: "Excuse me but my brother told you to exit by molmien and you didn't listen. Why should we pay you?" He then said stuff about not knowing that I informed him about turning.

The hell was that about???? The cab is small, my voice is clear and articulate, and aren't all drivers referred to as "uncle" or "auntie"?

I mean, we are putting our lives in the hands of these people???? Makes me wonder about how low the standards have dropped. I mean, just because you're old doesn't mean that all old people's hearing is whacked? It's just irresponsible, I think, for cab drivers like that man to be driving passengers to and fro and not pay attention to the information that the passengers relay to him. It just shows that even though you're older than me and have a license for a cab doesn't make you safe to fetch people around.

By the way, the cab's a SMRT model. Car plate no. SHB5898M.

Thanks, Dudes and Dudettes, for this time.
